Life is like a race, the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:24 talks about how we should run the race:
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize”

So what does it mean to run in such a way to get the prize? The race of life we are talking about isn’t a short race, so how can we lead our life in such a way that is resilient? Run in such a way that we can finish well? In this book “The Resilient Life”, the author Gordon Macdonald gives us a very interesting perspective:
“It makes little difference how fast you can run the 100 meters when the race is 400 meters long. Life is not a sprint; it is a distance run, and it demands the kind of conditioning that enables people to go the distance.”

Living our lives as a disciple of Christ is a marathon, not a sprint. Thus, we need to develop the right kind of character, discipline our flesh and be equipped with the right gear to finish well. Sadly, many Christians are able to start, but few finish well. Difficulties, discouragements, and temptations trip and discourage many in this race of faith. How can we develop the courage and character to keep running till the end? How can we develop resilience — to get up when we fall? The heart of this conference is GEARED to LAST, so that we may put on the right gear in our “heart and hands” to finish well.
